today i took my 18ft jon boat out in the bay for the first time and wanted to just ride around and burn a 6gl tank of gas close to shore..i burned about 3/4 of a tank a of gas going up and down the shore....then the motor started just rev'ing high and not pushing the boat..i managed to limp back...
what is the smallest size air compressor that would be good for painting boats and motors and using sanding fiberglass and hulls...i dont want too small that i'm always waiting on it to fill back up....just looking for the average size or optimal size...
this is my first complete rebuild...and this is the first time i started it up..its knocking real bad...i'm guessing that the timing is way off? what would cause this knock?
also it seems to be running hot, i couldnt hold my hand on the powerhead for long, but it seems to be pumping water good...
i broke the housing on my 1975 johnson 25hp recoil housing.....is there a way to fix this? maybe have it welded? or does anyone know where i can find one?
well i just broke a ring :( i went to autozone and bought their ring compressor and managed to break one trying to install it......its 1975 25 hp johnson...which is the best compressor to buy? or the best way to do it without breaking rings? this is my first rebuild.....the rings for this motor...
i picked this motor up last night for $100...looks to be a low hour motor considering the condition under the hood ....was froze up but i managed to get it moving , the bottom cylinder is rusted up,but no scoring! gonna take it apart and get the cylinders honed and put new rings in it and...
i have a 94' merc 115 and i'm trying to remove the flywheel with a harmonic Bal. puller but none of the bolts i have will fit the holes on top..are these special size bolts? from what i can tell they are 5/16 with 20 threads per inch? is this correct? any idea where i can get the bolts to fit this?
the splines on my 79 merc 20hp lower unit shaft are being worn down..they are half way gone......no wonder it wouldnt go very fast lol.....
what do you think caused this and what can i do to fix it? if i change just the shaft would i have to break into the case and take everything out or would...
well i've broken down my 1979 evinrude 15hp ..this is my first total rebuild of a motor...:) i had a wrist pin retainer failure that ate up the top cylinder....it was pretty deep so instead of trying to get it rebored i found a 1985 15hp johnson powerhead on ebay, totally stripped down basically...
almost done getting my 1990 120hp force back together after a powerhead swap...all i had left to do was swap out lower units with one i bought off ebay almost 2 yrs ago....well i pull the ebay LU out the crate and was gonna put a new impeller on it..pull off the housing and find lower unit oil...
well yesterday i took my lil 15hp out for its first run in yrs....it had sat up for 4yrs and was froze and i managed to free it up and getting it running again....it ran ok for awhile then i noticed it start to lose power...so brought it home and did a compression check on it ...30 psi on top...
i broke the 90 degree plastic tell tale fitting on my motor while trying to take it off so i can unclog it. i broke the barb off while turning it....is there anyway to take this off and put a new one on without taking off the whole head? there is hardly any clearance between it and the cowling.
