Thanks F_R
It looks like the head and base gasket are still available. It has 80psi dry compression in both cylinders and both the old spark plugs are burning the same so I'm not expecting any bad seals in the powerhead. I'll know more when the lower parts and the carb kit comes when I can test...
Thank you F_R Yes it is in fact a 50T3338serial Number 763634 Which according to the internet puts it as a 1957 and I have read that the evinrude15hp bore size was increased in 1957 But I wasn't sure what the original Evinrude bore size was. Although I have repaired or restored over 50 1954-1980...
Hi Does anyone have more than the basic information on the 1957 Brooklure 1200 some say it is closely modeled after the evinrude 15 hp. I have one I'm repairing for a customer.
Thanks Mike
I have a hard time taking anything anyone says seriously after they say it is ok to run any motor with any bushings at 50:1 as I can show anyone first hand what the crank and rod and block look like afterwards
I am slowly after doing 20 of the old Evinrudes and Johnsons Starting to pick up some of the tools that make life working on these motors easier.
I am finally in possession of both of my dads original motors a 1955 7.5 Evinrude and a 1959 18hp Golden Jubilee.
I think it's time to start weeding...
Thanks for the latest replies I have a good digital volt ohm meter but it doesn't measure capacitance so I picked up a Honeytek A6013L capacitor tester.
I will say I'm not sure it would have caught the only bad condenser I have ever had on an outboard motor which was last year on a condenser...
I also picked up a meter to test condensers .
Does anyone know what the spec is for the Evinrude /Johnson condensers used in the 5.5hp - 25hp pre 1975's.
of the used ones I have they test from 2.11 -3.59Uf
Yea I learned something new today. I did a test at different throttle positions and proved myself wrong.
I have always set the points with a feeler gage and then re adjusted after checking with a timing light. I'm looking forward to a day warm enough to fill the test tank and test out a 18hp...
I picked up an Evinrude timing tool and there is no mention of the throttle position while using it.
But since moving the throttle changes the position of the timing mark in relation to the crankshaft How can the statement throttle position doesn't matter when setting points with a meter
Thanks...
