I have a 1989 SeaRay Laguna 20' Center console, couple of years back I purchased a New 150 HP Mercury SeaPro outboard motor. Prop works great moving forward and gets me to the full rated RPM's at 5200.
Problem is when backing up it doesn't seem to respond correctly unless I'm going very slow...
no more noise, this only happened once, i think talking about the noise has misled this post. When referring to the noise difference is when the engine was running at 5,000 RPM and then dropped top 3500 RPM. Now I can't get back to top speed.
Went down and checked the compression and spark on all 3 cylinders, spark was good and compression was 180 Lbs. on each cylinder. Nothing under the Cowling seems to be loose. when checking the travel distance on the throttle handle it moves full distance on he throttle body.
When trying to go...
The motor was running fine at full speed right around 5K RPM, while driving it made a noise "as if" a muffler fell off and drop speed. when looking under cowling everything looks fine.
Checked the prop, it's good. the RPM is only coming up to about 3500. Checked the travel on the throttle and it is traveling the full distance allowed.
Motor doesn't sound like it's missing.
The boat is a 14' Dinghy with a hard bottom.
The Boat type is a Novurania Dinghy 14', the main repair we did was the fuel system. Fixing the fuel did add speed to the boat which could have caused the Prop to have spun.
The motor height seems fine as it's a short shaft motor that matches the transom height.
How do I check for a spun prop...
Took our 40 HP Yamaha into the dealer for a service, water Impeller/Fuel issue. Both problems fixed.
After running it in the water a couple of days we tried the Top Speed, it worked fine for a few minute then it sounded as if a Muffler fell off and reduced the speed. Not sure what happen but...
Things I've tried..
* Squeezing the fuel ball while trying to keep running, made no difference.
*Checked for Spark, good.
*Checked for water in the fuel separator filter, no water and the drain screw is tight.
* I did notice the air screw on the gas tank was closed tight, I loosen it and will...
I have a 40 HP Yamaha (F40LA) that seems to run great for about 20 minutes then dies out, if I try to restart it will start then just die. If it sits overnight, it will repeat this same pattern.
I have plenty of Fuel, checked the fuel separator (No Water/and cap is tight) The Fuel filter look a...
