5.7 gsi pwtr Timing shunt procedure contradictions

Thank you for this. I have to admit I’m a little too dumb to fully follow the math he did to calculate where to place his 8 degree tape line. However, so long as the circumference of my balancer is the same as his I should be able to caliper the same distance eh? In any event I should be able...

5.7 gsi pwtr Timing shunt procedure contradictions

Thank you. Now that I know better I’ve been doing some digging at it appears there still may be some conflicting info but this time it’s which pins to jumper. On this post it says B & C but on the image above it’s A & B.https://forums.iboats.com/threads/set-timing-5-7l-gsi.703924/ Any guidance...

5.7 gsi pwtr Timing shunt procedure contradictions

I’m trying to click on the sticky in the must read for delco EST in the Volvo penta section here: and when I do it takes me to some thread about an Evinrude outboard. ? I’ve tried using a different browser with the same result. Anyone have the most recent service bulletin for setting base...

5.7 gsi pwtr Timing shunt procedure contradictions

When I tried starting it with the shunt installed I believe it was too advanced and the engine rotated backward while the starter was engaged. This was far from a new starter so it didn’t take much but it does need to be replaced now because of it.

5.7 gsi pwtr Timing shunt procedure contradictions

Hello all it’s been a long time. Working on a 1999 Volvo penta Gsi PWTR TBI with a new long block in it. It’s been several years since I’ve had to set base timing on one of these and I’m reading conflicting procedures. Some say specifically to install the shunt and connect to 12v+ before...

Low voltage to fuel pump relay

It did end up being the diode on the cranking circuit but I replaced both for good measure. Thanks to everyone that chimed in, I always end up learning something new. Posted a video explaining how I understand the system and what I did to repair it if anyone is interested or might find it...

Low voltage to fuel pump relay

🤦🏻 Holy hell do I have a thick skull sometimes. I looked at that number 3 different times and each time I read an i at the end. Took a picture and still read an i. Glad you all are smarter then my dyslexia..my mistake. Confirmed a GS. Not for nothing tho I learned something new about model...

Yessir thank you. Diving back into it today. I appreciate all the responses.

Low voltage to fuel pump relay

Yessir. I’m surprised myself not to find one. I was under the impression they were mandatory for all marine platforms where an electric fuel pump is used. But definitely not one just above the oil filter where you’d normally see it like you said nor on the top of the block in the back next to...

Low voltage to fuel pump relay

It’s not TBI it is in fact carbureted. I double checked the model number and what I posted it right.

Low voltage to fuel pump relay

Thanks everyone. The mistake I was making was believing I should be getting 12v with the key in the on position when the engine isn’t running. Makes sense that it only gets 12v while cranking until the alternator takes over, especially since this engine isn’t equipped with an oil pressure...

Trailering boat with outdrive struck down?

I have a bump starter I keep in my boat that I have used for just such an occasion, although usually it’s for other boaters since I keep the spare parts for mine onboard. However what you can do is jump 12v + to the blue (up) or green (down) to get by. My solution requires the culprit to be a...

Low voltage to fuel pump relay

Volvo Penta 5.7 GSi PWTR Hi everyone. Having intermittent issues with the fuel pump. New fuel pump, filters, pick up, anti syphon, relay, and fuel line. I’m getting 12v on the battery wire at the relay (30), but with the ignition on I’m only getting 1V to (85) IGN/Alternator. I guess I’m a...

    2006 115 XL continuous alarm above 1500

Hi everyone, Got a 2006 Mercury 115 4 stroke EFI XL Serial: 1B418890 I get a continuous alarm in gear or neutral somewhere around 1500 rpm or so. Soon as I let of the throttle it runs normally. It acts just as if the rev limiter is activated and it very well could be but I don’t know how I can...
