It's a boat I purchased recently with a 3.0LX, and I just got it cranking with a new starter. When I add a little gas to the carb, it backfires a little, but doesn't act like any motor that wants to start.
Here's what I've figured out so far:
-Plugs look fairly new
-firing order is correct...
Just purchased a 1997 Bayliner with a 3.0LX. Previous owner says he had the starter replaced last year, and then it started having starter issues. After I got it home, I put in a new battery, and it would make a few clicking noises like it wanted to turn, but wouldn't. It would also seem to lose...
Search results didn't help to much. I just replaced the 5.7 motor in my 1989 Arriva. I aligned the motor, and installed the MC-1 drive (pre-alpha) and it likes going forward, but not reverse. In reverse I here some sounds that indicate that it's trying, but failing.
Now I'm not 100% sure this...
My 1989 Arriva purchase this year had a cracked 5.7 Mercruiser block, so I never tried starting it. I purchased a 1986 Celebrity junk boat, 5.7 fired up and ran well before I pulled it. Swapped the motors, and now I can't get the motor to work in the Arriva.
When I dribble a little fuel into...
1982 Mercruiser 140. Ok, so this guy moved up to Wisconsin from southern Indiana where all he usually did was "pull the freeze plugs and fog." Two years ago he did that up here and the boat has sat ever since. I'm looking at it for him and the engine isn't locked up, so I thought there may be...
I have a nice 86' Larson that has a 4.3L Mercruiser that's shot, and a Cobra outdrive that also needs work. I also have an old 71' Thompson with bad stringers and upholstry, but has a good Volvo inline 6 and 250 outdrive.
Besides the controls and motor mount locations, will the volvo engine...
So I can get a free 1990 Bayliner that has already had the busted L-Drive removed and discarded. The hull is in good shape, does anyone think I might be able to do something with this? Maybe some sort of inboard? Anyone have any ideas?
My starter clicks, but won't crank. I checked my wiring to and from the starter relay, and that seems to be fine. But upon looking at my starter, it only has 2 wires connected to it, the big red one from the battery and the yellow/red one from the relay.
There is another spot on the starter...
I tested and re-tested the tilt motor out of my volvo penta 275 I/O, and it doesn't do anything when I hook up the 2 wires directly to a battery, either way.
Is this motor rebuildible? Are there any kits out there to rebuild it? Anyone here ever done it?
Thanks!
I've got a 1990 Arriva 2450 with a Mercruiser 7.4L in it that is most likely shot (double checking this week). It's coupled to a Bravo III drive. I know a guy who wants the drive and engine, so would it be fine to swap in a 5.7 Mag that I know of with an alpha drive?
I think the alpha and...
I have a 1972 Inline six that I'm working on getting started. The carbs that are on the motor right now have been sitting for years and leak a little gas when I pump the gas line bulb. Time for a rebuild, right?
So I also acquired with this motor another set of carbs which I'm assuming are off...
Ok, I've acquired a 1972 Merc 1400 inline six that was stripped of it's electronics. It came with a bunch of extra parts including several switch boxes, rectifiers, and transformers. Plus I also have a brand new rectifier and a switch box from my 1250 that I know is good.
I'm wondering, is...
68' Merc, 125hp inline six. So my coil wasn't getting anything from the control box, and I ordered a used one off of ebay. I'm wondering if this one is bad too, because I'm still not getting any voltage to my coil from the control box. I should notice some sort of voltage on my test meter when...
On my 68' Merc 125hp inline six, I replaced the control box that was damaged when I fried my rectifier (accidentally switched the power cables, knew I should have labled those old things). I haven't recieved my new rectifier in the mail yet, is there a way to safely bypass the rectifier today...
