Switching from Volvo TBI to Carb on a 1996 5.7 GI

Great work and congrats! Question: did you use the bypass or blocking fuel regulator?

    Swap wood panel in upholstery

Ah I don't know for sure but isn't that linseed oil REALLY flammable? I think if I do another one of these (have to do the starboard side coaming panel next), I'm just going to use some oil based paint. Interlux Bilgecoat or similar. I used that on wood panels in the engine compartment and they...

    Swap wood panel in upholstery

PS I used PT wood when I did the big sunpad on my 88 F/W and nothing else, it's still good! Done 17 years ago! did the same when I fixed the port side coaming panel like 8 years ago.

Looking for a part (steering pin)

An OMC part may be identical because when they went into the Joint Venture with Volvo in '94, VP took the OMC Cobra transom mount and slightly modified it (the pivot housing part #76 in the diagram above in particular is different) but many parts, if not the majority are the same. I have bought...

Also depending on how F/W did it, if you have nuts and bolts to hold the hinges to the rear fiberglass, think about making a backing piece of plywood (1/2" is fine) to spread the load of the hinges out so as to not stress the fiberglass. My boat has the full size sun pad in that location and...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

One thing I just thought of....insurance....will insurance cover the cost of the new engines, etc? Agreed value policy? Would they cover a loss seeing as how the boat was significantly modified from its original configuration?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I hear that is a side effect of retirement or even semi-retirement. I have discovered it's a ratio. 60/40 "your" projects vs house projects, if you're lucky!

    Swap wood panel in upholstery

All I did was use PT wood and stainless fasteners, the original was redone before I got it and it was unwrapped foam. I didn't know as much then as I do now, but I did that I think in 2009 and it's still OK now!

I had to replace that huge piece of plywood about 15 years ago, it was the width & length of the engine compartment so it was big and heavy. The original was 3/4" plywood so that's what I used. Still in good shape now all these years later.

Is there a complete service guide?

Dexter might have some vids on their site about how to maintain hubs/bearings, since they seem to own everything in the trailer biz right now lol. Etrailer also has vids as well.

Bob Weir of Grateful Dead passed on.

There were definitely guys doing that in the parking lot of Nassau Coliseum way back when. Which ironically was the site of the former Mitchel Air Force Base.

Bob Weir of Grateful Dead passed on.

I never did see them in concert but when I was a grad student at Hofstra University in Hempstead LI they played several shows at Nassau Coliseum and there were tons of Dead heads camped out the parking lot for a few days…me I was too busy as a grad student then! But sure looked like fun!

Omc outdrive knocking noise while cruising.

That will help for sure; I have the parts to convert mine but haven’t had to do it as of yet…. Check the shift cable fitting & those 2 drain plugs on the side and you may need to replace the small oring for the bell crank shaft. These can get cooked if you had an overheat or just wear out over...

Omc outdrive knocking noise while cruising.

OK about the gimble bearing, for it to come out like that, I'm thinking it might not have been seated all the way when installed. The build up in the recess where the bell crank is located is probably from evaporating water deposits. Water is getting in and when it evaporates you find the...
