Got stranded with my 97 40hp 4cyl last month. bought new in 98. motor has less than 60 hrs. tech guy said stator failed and he's repaired dozens of these. something about black one was poorly made with weak or too thin a gauge of wire and replacemenmt (red?) is a redesigned heavier gauge wire...
