I just bought this motor so I have no history on it. It starts up just fine, idles fine. In the driveway on the muffs it revs up fine. On the water, at about quarter throttle (10mph on my 21 ft. boat)...it will just die when I give it more throttle. If I back it off to quarter throttle it...
Trying to figure out what type of outdrive it had originally. See photo. It has been converted to an outboard with a bracket but I might want to convert back to I/O.
Will my engine run without the rectifier? Will i cause damage to my engine, or is it basically just to provide current to charge the battery? 1984 Evinrude 115
Thanks
I have an infrared thermometer. What temp should the engine be at the heads? I am not sure my cooling system is working, so I don't want to run it too hot. I keep waiting for water to pee out of the holes just below the cowl, but don't want to wait so long as to damage the engine.
I have a 1982 Evinrude 115. The rectifier has fried. (see photo). The one that fried appears to be a high amp model mounted on top of the engine block halfway under the flywheel. I think i has a high amp type because the motor has tilt and trim? Anyway, the tilt and trim doesn't even work...
Can anyone tell me what these wires are for in the pic? They appear to enter the engine block through some type of cover just under the flywheel in the back of the engine. The wires must have shorted or arced and part of the cover looks like it is melted. There are two large white or tan...
Does the 1982 Johnson 9.9 have a thermostat? Just bought the engine. There is a pee / telltale hole under the cowling, but it never pees. I can see a tube going to it from the engine block. There is water coming out of the exhaust thing on the mid/lower unit, but none from the pee hole.
1 of the 4 cylinders is not getting spark. Swapped coil from one of the good cylinders...still no spark. Swapped power pack from one side to the other...still no spark at the same cylinder. What's next?
I recently bought this 115 and have finally got it running. I noticed water comes out both holes and the telltale hole right from the start. After idling for several minutes, the heads do not get above 110 with the laser thermometer. Does this mean my thermostats are missing or stuck open?
