i'm installing my lu on a 1985 90h/p evinrude.I recently changed my water pump and a new exhaust rubber seal.now it's time to reinstall the lu,is there anythere i should look for as i do it.anything to make sure of,or something to make the job easier

motor was overheating so i took off thermostats. when the thermostats were off i noticed sand in the thermostat manifold. checked thermostats for operations both operations fine. could the sand have something to do with the overheating?
