Thanks, That's another piece of information I haven't found yet. It looks like by this reference There is a DT16SX or DT16LX based on the 1602-1XXXXX serial number. In other references I've found in a Suzuki Book dated for Model Years 1980-1982, I primarily find based on my serial #, I have a...
While I would love to post Pic's, I am away from home (and the boat) and likely will be for another month or two. While I have time some time, I am trying to study this, and acquire the needed materials so that when I get home, I'm ready to quickly proceed with the repairs.
The blisters are...
I was given a DT16 1602-103623 and am needing to find a few parts. I keep finding references to Models G, J or Vz, and am unable to identify any differences.
I am away from the motor right now and will be for likely another month or two, but that won't stop me from searching for the needed...
Away from home and project for a bit (sorry can't do Pic's at this time), but beginning to think about the best way to move forward when spring finally arrives. Hull is a 1957ish ( I think) Herters Hudson Bay (given to me by a friend). Before the snow started to fly, I wire brushed, then...
Life has a way of interrupting my projects for sure. What appeared to work initially again failed. Pinion Gear won't raise when pulling the start rope. I again dis-assembled the starter and methodically approached this project again with a "fresh Look" and believe I now have the final...
just had an emergency come up that will take me away for a few weeks (maybe more). Thanks so much for the reply, I'm going to have to shelve this project for a bit and will be out of touch for the near future. I am so very appreciative of the feedback and will follow up when timing is better.
Thanks all for the input. The torsion axles seem to be working fine. I haven't pulled a wheel yet to check/clean/repack the bearings, (or to even see how they come apart). Would rather keep what I have than try to refit another axle. New tires are not an issue, but after checking with a...
I just received this trailer from a good friend along with a 13.5 foot Herter's Hudson Bay fiberglass boat and a 1981 Suzuki DT 16 outboard. I have never owned a trailer with this type of wheel hub axle arrangement before and would consider updating to a "more modern Hub". Any suggestions as...
Problem Solved?
I've been off this project for a couple of weeks and am just now getting back to it. Had a conversation with the previous owner, he stated his son in law replaced the start rope. After a little messing around today, It appears in doing so he "over stretched" the friction...
That being the case, I'll keep an eye out for a newer 10-15HP (assuming I retire the DT-16, and if the Admiral agrees) and not worry. Thanks for the info. By the way... your links are quite amazing. I look for hours it seems and can not find information like this. Very appreciated.
My understanding was that with these older boats, the HP rating was more of the weight that could hang off the transom during trailering rather than thrust. If that's so, probably shouldn't exceed 95lbs (ish) to be safe (or exceed by very much)? Look for a motor by weight rather than HP?
Apologies, I think I posted this in the wrong place. Thanks all for the feedback. If I could move this post I would, sorry.
I cant find much on Herters boats, but the cast breast hook and rear gussets are clearly marked Herters Hudson Bay and she's definitely 13 1/2 feet long w/ 15" transom...
A friend gave me an old Herters Hudson Bay 13.5' fiberglass boat in great shape (needs stripping and re-painting). I'm very much looking forward to the spring when my Spaniel pup Buoy and I will be spending many hours on the water with it (very manageable size for the two of us). It came with...
