Thought my boat would be faster

I will. If I can find a friend that’s not a fat ass and shoehorn him into the jump seat.

Thought my boat would be faster

I like this reply. I’m sure it was redone. At least the floor and all the interior has been. It’s not taking on water. But. I’m 63. It’ll outlive me and I’ve had fun screwing around with it. It is pretty cool, ain’t it?

Thought my boat would be faster

I’d be REALLY surprised if this thing is waterlogged. The floor and transom are solid as a rock. It’s been babied. I’ll get back when I take out to get the rpm.

Thought my boat would be faster

I’ve got an 81 MFG Piper 1500 with 120 Mercruiser in it. It weighs 1350 lbs. it’s got a 15x17 p prop on it. Admittedly, the prop has got some significant wear to it. Considering the size and weight of the boat, with two adult guys(500) in it, I thought if get better than 30.5 mph. Bummer. The...

    Trim oil leak into bilge

Yer a godsend. I assumed it to be a nightmare of monumental proportions. I’d been reading about engine removal and whatnot. I’ll keep you posted. Thx. Mike.

    Trim oil leak into bilge

Thanks a lot for the reply. How hard is to to fish a line through the transom, what with the angles on the fittings and such? I can barely see in the engine compartment. As I mentioned before, the leak is totally in the bilge. No tell tale signs of leak on the outside.

    Trim oil leak into bilge

It’s one freaking thing after another…. Nice day on the river and the trim up won’t work. Looks like my set up is different. Question. When there is a leak into the bilge, is there a most likely culprit? ie. Loose flare nuts, Pump seal, split hose. I’ll be working practically blind on this...

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

The first photo is the throttle at idle and the direction of the spring. The second is the throttle at wot. When the boat was built I’m sure this is the way it was installed. Probably the original return spring. It returns alright. Into wot. I did not want to go to the trouble of reconnecting...

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

This diagram is correct. BUT it pulls it wot. I ducked around just now to reverse the tension. But who wants to have to keep your hand on the throttle the whole day while fishing? Imagine if on your old car (in my case an MGB) You would switch the direction of the return spring 180 degrees...

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

Rochester 2 jet. It’s just the installation of the return spring. It’s original and on backwards. The problem I’m running into is instead of its original purpose, like on a car, to return to idle, it pulls it to wot. I’m surprised I didn’t swamp the boat. I’ve been boating for over 50 years but...

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

The other day I had my new to me boat on the Ohio river. Hit some major waves and the throttle went wide open. The boat nearly went out of control. Obviously, the tension of the spring pulled it there. Why the hell is this thing installed. On my set up, it looks like original. I had misgivings...
