I think you likely have a left hand lower unit (assuming the cables are correctly arranged). To get around this, I would just find a left hand prop and install it and it should perform just as well as any right hand motor.
I removed the four short bolts that hold the two pieces of my valve body together. Upon removing the two, I discovered that wedged in between the two were two springs of different sizes, a needle and a ball bearing. Where do those things go in order for it to be functional when I wedge them back...
