Non-techie try to install a new VHF radio...Surprise, surprise...Interesting glitch!

OK...I admit it...My electrical skills are bordering on nil, but hey...I gave it a shot anyway; installing my brand new VHF radio (Standard Horizon GX1700). A little background - A few months ago, I installed my fishfinder using dedicated red and black wires that run from one of the batteries...

Which VHF antenna should I buy?

Hi Everyone :D, I have a SeaRay 240 SunDeck. I plan to purchase a Standard Horizon GX1700...What is the best 8' 6db antenna to pair it up with? I've narrowed my choice to the Shakespeare 6225 or the Digital 529-VW. 1. Between these two models, which would you pick (cost difference not being...

    Will this winch be adequate?

Fulton F2 1600, which I already have in the garage for a prior boat that was much smaller and lighter. I have a 2005 240 SeaRay 240 Sundeck that is 4500#, but with fuel, water, and gear, it probably weighs 5300. Will this winch do? Thank you, Morgueman (Eric)

Power loss when trying to pull boat up launch ramp!!!

I have a 2006 Lincoln Navigator (2-wheel drive - rear). When I attempt to pull my boat (2005 SeaRay 240 SunDeck, 6000# includ. trailer) out of the water on an inclined launch ramp, the Navigator will pull it about 10 feet or so, and then sometimes lose all acceleration and start rolling...

Interested in being hired to do on-water training tomorrow at Lake Perris/Elsinore?

Hi Everyone, I know this is a long-shot, but I was wondering if any of you (or someone you know) might be interested in being hired to take my wife and me out to teach us launching, boating around, and retrieving of our "new-to-us" 2005 Searay 240 Sundeck. I imagine it would take 1-2 hours. We...

    Boarding Steps

Hi Everyone! Just bought a Sea Ray 240 SunDeck. The swim platform is 52" off the ground. The Admiral is not the most adept at getting up the swim ladder, and so I'm looking to purchase steps for boarding while the boat is parked at our house. All I can find are ones that are $400+. :eek...

Got a new boat yesterday...Had an accident today. Do I need to fix this?

Hi Everyone, So I purchased a 2005 Sea Ray 240 Sundeck yesterday, and today, when I left from the house with the trailered boat, I heard a loud noise and immediately knew that I forgot that the stern-drive was all the way down.:facepalm:Lesson learned...Do the walk-around, etc. etc. So...

Does this SUV/boat combo need a weight distribution hitch, or is the ball/coupler ok?

Today, I pulled the trigger and bought a boat/trailer combo with a combined weight of 6360. My Lincoln Navigator has a towing capacity of 8600 and uses air bags for suspension. Do I need a weight distribution hitch of is the ball/coupler sufficient? Thank you, Eric (Morgueman)

Which of these two boats should I you choose?

Hi Everyone, For the same price, I could get either of these. Which should I choose, and why? 1. 2005 SeaRay 240 Sundeck with 320 hp Mercruiser 2. 2007 Regal 2400 with 320 hp Volvo We're new to boating, live in Southern CA, and plan to trailer the boat around. I imagine we'll mostly use it...

    Regal FasDeck 24

Hi Folks! I will be buying my first boat, and like so many others, we want it to do too much -- cabin for sleeping, open bow for more room, sea worthiness, and of course, trailerable (I have a Lincoln Navigator). After thinking through the responses I received about towing the only...

Is this NEWBIE out of his league buying this boat??? Be honest...

Hi Folks! So I've been busy with the RV world (owning tent trailers, travel trailers, motorhome, etc.) with the family (wife and 2 teenage boys) for the past 15 years, and now, living in San Diego, I want to learn about boating. The wife (hopefully soon to be The Admiral), is ok with getting a...

New to boating...What do you think of these brands/models?

I'm new to boating (other than putzing around in my portabote a few times at some small lakes), and I'm looking to purchase my first larger boat...I'd like a used cuddy (with V-berth and aft berth), under 27 ft in length, trailerable (ie. beam max of 8' 6"), and a stand-up head with shower. I...
