With the throttle rod closed and at idle speeds, the pump moves oil at a very slow rate. There is a procedure in the shop manual for measuring its output into a graduated cylinder but most just mark the oil tank with tape, run 10 gal of gas and then measure how much oil it takes to refill to...
Oil is not injected into the crankcase at that fitting, instead, a small puff of crankcase pressure during the power stroke comes OUT of that fitting to aid in delivery of the oil headed to the intake. The oil system on that motor is very reliable, if you disassemble any part of it insure that...

I have an 1983 Johnson 35hp, model #J35ECTS, mated to an outboard jet model Q. It will only rev to 4900rpm and while it pushes my 1648 jon 20mph, I've been reading that lugging the engine will lead to an early demise. Anyone out there have a similar...
I've been troubleshooting low fuel pressure from the fuel pump and after changing it for a known good pump, I'm now suspecting the crankcase pressure. Anyone out there know how much pressure to expect from the crankcase hole which supplies the pump? Right now I'm only getting a slight puff of...
I have a 1983 35hp Johnson model number J35ECTS and would like to hook up a SS White 0-8000rpm tachometer. I'm hoping someone out there can let me know how many poles this model alternator has, the options on the back of the tach are 6,8,10,20.
