    Thanks for the input. I know the plugs are the right ones and they are brand new and very clean, The engine does slow down somewhat after turning off the key . Could be carbon build up in the cylinders. or the heads. I just seafoamed it to clean it out, Didn't make any difference that I can...

    Been working on this 85 hp v4 evinrude , Finally got the hard starting problem fixed( fuel pump was bad) Now it doesn't want to shut down when I turn the ignition key off. It runs on for a bit then finally dies. Doesn't do it every time. ? any ideas?

    Comp check by a mechanic showed 90 lbs (cold) spark was tested to jump 1/2" as per the manual. I researched the carbs and found that 79 and 80 years have different carbs, They are similar but according to the Evinrude manual they are not the same .     this motor will not start unless fuel is manually sprayed into cylinders. then it starts right up but runs crappy. After it runs for a few minutes it may start up without priming and it might not.
