    1998 Mercruiser 3.0l high idle

I'll have to go back and check the kit P/N, but I bought it from a Merc dealer, so I assume it's good. I already have checked the float level and weighed it (9 grams), so seems all good. I will try what you said about spraying the carb cleaner around the base of the carb too! Thanks

    1998 Mercruiser 3.0l high idle

Oh, ok, maybe I wasn't specific enough, apologies, when I try to adjust it down from 1000rpm or so, it will choke and stall out before it gets to the recommended idle range of ~650rpm

I believe it is correct and sound. Came with the rebuild kit. Any tricks to checking for a vacuum leak? One thing I tried was when it was getting close to stalling out, was give it a shot of carb cleaner down the throat, and if it revved up, it was likely too much air in the mixture, but...

Sorry, I had to re-read his post. The throttle cable WAS disconnected when I did the adjustments. Sorry about that confusion.

Yup, I just can't get the rpm down to the ~650 number no matter how much I adjust the idle and mixture screws

    1998 Mercruiser 3.0l high idle

Hi all, i rebuilt my Mercarb over the winter and and also had the distributer out of the engine. So this spring I reinstalled the carb and adjusted the timing and got the engine running. Problem is, I cannot get the idle down. I start the carb idle adjust screw at 2 turns in on the cam and the...

Impeller kit fixed the issue. Happy to have moved on from that. Thanks for the help

Oh, and the engine coupler looks good and the drive shaft does rotate the prop when I've got it engaged in fwd gear

The face seal was totally gone too. Bought the kit and installed new impeller, housing, gaskets, face seal, o-rings and oil seal carrier. Going away for the weekend, but I'll report back as soon as I can! Thanks for the help.

Do you mean how flexible they are? They seem pretty flexible and there are no cracks in the rubber or anything. To me (untrained eye) it seems to be in good shape

Ok, so if they became separated wouldn't water still be drawn in by the pump and just leak out the front of the drive housing? The impeller didn't seem to be drawing any water in at all.

So this is what I found when I took the drive housing off the gear housing. The impeller and inside of the housing looked good with no grooves are marks in the inner housing wall. Not sure what to make of all the sand and debris on the outside of the housing. Separately, can I use compressed air...

Yeah that's right Mike, the o-ring. So, disconnected the hose at the thermostat housing end that came from the power steering cooler.....no water. Disconnected the hose at the input to the power steering cooler from the transom.....no water. Thoughts?
