    I used my calibrated inductive shop tach and GPS from phone. I'd not trust dash gauges for dialing in prop. If that checks out, I'd be looking at engine tune, point dwell, timing, etc.

    I had Merc prop 14×21 3blade and tried Solas 14×21 4blade (same pitch) on 18' Searay bowrider with Alpha One, and it dragged my 3.0 down to 3500 rpm and couldn't get top speed either. Solas had higher rake and extra blade. Bought a Merc Black Diamond 21" pitch and now I'm at 4425 rpm WOT and...

    I just bought a 18' Searay bowrider with a swapped 1988 3.0 Mercruiser, old style distributor. The engine sticker says 42-4600 W.O.T., 6° BTDC, and 130hp. Other model years I've looked up give it 44-4800 max W.O.T., and different timing specs. Trying to finalize a prop lately, boat currently...

    Motor starts and runs perfectly, no bogging or missing, but does not have as much planing power and top speed rpms. Owned since new and well-maintained, no catastrophic events, overheats or seizures
