I assume the integration of the deck/keel/hull is integral to the strength of hull itself due to the profile created by these parts, being a sideways closed "H" or "I" beam profile (i.e commonly used to strengthen structures), so I'm a bit reluctant to modify this section of the boat...

I'd like your opinion. I'm in the process of replacing all the wood (i.e. transom, floor, etc.) in my 16' Glastron ski boat. Along the center keel there is about 8" depth (i.e. perfect for ski storage) of unused space running most of the length of the boat which I'd like to utilize...

Great forum - wish I found it sooner. In the process of replacing the rotted wood transom, floor and seats. It has a 115 Merc with hydraulic tilt and trim. I'd like to increase the 55mph top end speed and if I understand correctly that extending the motor back further may achieve this...
