    New to me sailboat

I appreciate the suggestion. I was just unaware of sailnet.com, and I've been getting reasonable and helpful responses here. But, I have also introduced myself over on sailnet. They have some old discussions thread that actually talk about my particular boat model, so that's good.

    New to me sailboat

Thanks. We had several dire predictions on the home made boat lift, but it worked and I learned a bit despite nay-sayers on the internet. Not this forum.

    New to me sailboat

My son-in-law and I put the mast up while on the trailer and figured out the rigging wires, etc. Then, after painting the bottom and re-installing the swing keel, I towed the boat to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland and put in at the state park boat ramp. I had intended to do a practice launch much...

So, I ended up dropping the keel out and using a wire brush to remove rust and scale. Then applied POR 15 to hopefully slow the rust progression. Also, power washed and repainted the bottom.

    Identify this motor?

Thanks. I suppose this means it's just "disposable" if something goes wrong. Mine currently runs and spins the prop, so better than nothing, or the untested Eska 7.0 that I need to set up a water tank for testing. The Eska is obviously much older, but at least I can find information online...

    Identify this motor?

Just trying to understand what I got. It's kind of big for a 1.6 HP motor, but I'd be surprised if it was over 5 HP. Again, it looks like a commercial lawn care size weed whacker motor. Any documentation or online manuals would be useful for maintenance and repair.

    What're these things for?

Well that could be what they are for, but there was no such ladder or step on the boat when I bought it. It is 40 years old. Not sure that 1/2" plywood should be supporting a step, but maybe a retainer for a ladder/step that rests on the floor. I'm going to leave them off for now.

    New to me sailboat

A progress report, slow as it seems. I've been delayed by seemingly endless rain and then family obligations, but I now have a boat lift set up and will be lifting the boat next week to clean/polish the bottom. I stripped all the woodwork off and have cleaned and oiled all the teak bits...

    Identify this motor?

Well, surprise, surprise! The weed whacker motor started and ran with just putting in some new fuel and pulling starter a few times. I now feel a bit better having a small motor to get in/out of dock. Still no idea on make or model.

    What're these things for?

I am rebuilding the console panel for my recently acquired Montego 19. Does anyone know what the keyhole shaped things are for? I have taken them off and kept them, though the plastic standoffs are crumbling. The main switch panel goes in the rectangular hole, and the crank for the swing keel...

    New to me sailboat

I just want to say I learned a whole lot just reading through tpenfield's Catalina 22 page, and following links to his various projects. Some very good info, especially the single handed mods. I'm probably going to do a few sails this Summer and then more in-depth projects in Fall and Winter...

    New to me sailboat

Thanks for the responses. The bottom is dirty, and I'll know more once I get it power washed. I have the equipment for that. I need to either build or buy some sort of cradle to get it off the trailer and high enough to bring the keel down. That should make cleaning easier. Definitely, for...

    New to me sailboat

I have just purchased a 1982 Montego 20. This is my first sailboat, and it appears to my untrained eye to be in fair shape. It's supposedly spent most of its life on a trailer and being used for weekend outings. It has a 2012 Shore Land'r trailer that is in good shape. My first question is...

    Identify this motor?

I purchased a smallish (20') sail boat a few days ago, and the seller included 2 trolling motors. One is an Eska 7.0 that I have hopes of getting running, the other is what looks llike a commercial sized weed whacker motor with a prop unit installed. It has no labels that I can find. Can...
