    Bravo 3 Drive w. a Broken Flange

1993 Chaparral 270 Signature w. a 7.4L Carb'd Engine Gonna try to install this Bravo 3 on my boat this summer. I bought this used for cheap on Craigslist. When I bought it, I didn't noticed this ear/flange piece was broken: Would probably be pretty expensive to have a welder fix it. If I...

7.4 merc won't start after winter storage

IMO the fact it ran for 10 mins is a solid indication that everything from the gas tank to the carb is working properly. I'd focus on the carb at this point. Even though my accelerator pump doesn't work, after I get it started and it's warmed up the boat starts up like a champ; no problems...

Swapping my Bravo 1 for a Bravo 3...

Mine is a single engine boat. If it's a single engine boat, shouldn't it be a left hand or counter-clockwise rotation? I don't know what that translates into for the propeller. Thanks for the info!!! Now I know what to keep my eyes on during the swap.

7.4 merc won't start after winter storage

I have a 1993 carb'd 7.4 and for about 2 yrs my accelerator pump in my carb won't shoot jets of fuel when pumping the controller. It's probably all gummed up and needs to be rebuilt. So what I started doing was using starter fluid to get the engine started. But people frown on that so I've...

Swapping my Bravo 1 for a Bravo 3...

Gotcha and thank you! Per a previous conversation w. a Merc Customer Svc Rep, here are the specs: Serial Number: 0M134906 Manufactured: 06.04.2001 Ratio: 2.20:1 Looks to me that I can order the #30 you mentioned, and it should work based on my serial number, right? And the metal pins should...

Swapping my Bravo 1 for a Bravo 3...

1993 27' Chaparral Signature w. 7.4 Carb'd Engine Hello my fellow boaters. My boat originally came w a B3. However, it blew up and I replaced it with what was available; a B1. Now I've found a replacement B3 and am going to swap the drives. I just need a refresher on the differences...

Transom re-assembly in progress. Steering arm face up or down?

The manual doesn't specify. So I wonder if it can work either way; depending on how your steering ram is installed. Manual pictures indicate it should slope upward when installed.

How To Plug An Old Engine Into NMEA 2K

Yep. And a huge advantage that the GFS-10 has over my Lowrance sensor is that it not only measures fuel flow but it ALSO monitors fuel tank levels and dumps that info into NMEA 2k. Two birds. One stone.

How To Plug An Old Engine Into NMEA 2K

Thanks and good point. I actually don't mind a lower refresh rate w. digital. Accuracy, yes. That would be more of a problem. But really I like the thought of being able to manage everything through one multi-function display. Not only does it save on real estate, but then you also have the...

How To Plug An Old Engine Into NMEA 2K

Hello All - I have a carbureted '93 Mercruiser 7.4 engine and I'd like to use the NMEA 2k network to monitor things like RPM, oil pressure, voltage, and water temp. Basically make my analog gauges obsolete. Apparently there are some devices out there that allow you to plug analog signals into...

Extra parts? Where do they go?

This is what it *should* look like when these flappers haven't failed. This is looking down into one side of the exhaust y-pipe. This would be where the riser exhaust elbow would connect to the exhaust pipe. These flappers are like "one way" valves and they prevent water from coming back into...

When I turn the key starter rapidly clicks

People keep mentioning the battery and "bad connections". Regarding "bad connections", I've found that the main ground wire that's bolted to the flywheel housing in the back is oftentimes corroded. Remember, your ground is just as important as the positive. A quick trick is to take jumper...

White Smoke on First Start on Muffs

Typically, "fogging" the engine is part of a winterization procedure. *If* it is smoke (but looks like steam in the video), it's probably just the fogging oil burning off.

'92 7.4 Carburetor Accelerator Pump Not Working

My observation first started when I went to fire up the engine after a long dormancy. I went to "pump" the carb a few times to get a few squirts of gas into it. Noticed there weren't any squirts. Completely dry. I got a small atomizer spray bottle and sprayed gas that way, and got the engine...
