    68 Offshore restoration

Did some resistance checking, over 100 ohm between block and lower housing, but didn't find any sources to send power in-between (only thing I could think of would be a frayed hyd pump wire, and those were good. Checked between the block ground and the starter ground, somewhere between 60-80...

That was my thought on the original wire. The one in the picture that burned was its replacement, only a month or two old. The weird thing is that the smaller ground wires on either side are apparently unscathed, which makes it seem like there is somehow some (big) energy running between the...

I have (had) a disposable inline external fuel filter and the internal screen filter. I have a pump maintenance kit on order as well but figured I should make sure the filters are clean if I'm having fuel supply issues. The external filter I just removed, maybe to be replaced later but I don't...

    68 Offshore restoration

Salmon run hasn't materialized well enough this year to bother with, so I took the kids out today. Also swapped the one weird signal coil beforehand. It mostly ran fine, hit about 32-33 mph at WOT (average of up and down stream). WOT RPMs seemed a little low at 4500, and I wasn't sure if I...

    68 Offshore restoration

As part of last Friday's to do list, I swapped the coil and tested, today. Then the engine didn't start up. Several hours later, thinking and fidgeting with the emergency kill switch clip on the key, I started thinking how dumb it would be if I forgot to place the clip... I forgot to place...

I wasn't even going to bother with the anchor nest, then decided that I didn't want the anchor always taking up space in the boat. But now I'm thinking about anchoring for salmon solo and don't think I'd be able to do so without the nest, at least not well.

Version 2 of the anchor nest was attached, it should work well for now. Pondering a version 3 that adds a hinge to the front for easier solo anchoring.

Knowingly being the key. The oil gauge was working last year. Not sure why it isn't now, probably need to check connections, just figured that out yesterday deciding to test it. The battery charging I did replace the rectifier, but it didn't seem to help, maybe the coil is bad, but it ohm'ed...

Checked with laser tach, mid 8xx, but that lower spark plug still reads 5xx on the digital tach. Tomorrow I will try to swap coils to see if the 5xx follows the coil. I am partly wondering if there could be a weird inductance issue happening, preventing the plug from firing every time, but if...

I've checked the ohm reading, and they were all consistent. I was in the process of making all the special tools required to pull the flywheel for visual inspection when I decided to try running it again on water. Here's my thinking: I have cdi ignition, it doesn't really make sense for it to...

This year of Suzuki didn't have idle speed adjustment. I think previous years did, I don't remember the reason for it going away. Doesn't really explain one spark plug firing slower than others anyway. The cheap tach has a wire wrapped around a spark wire and senses the em field, I'm...

    68 Offshore restoration

I was able to get some uhmw cut for the anchor nest. The aluminum is kinda crude, I'll probably replace with a couple pieces of angle, soon. Also tested the trolling motor for the first time ever, figured I should if it's partly a backup plan of the main goes out. Hasn't been used for a long...

What do you mean by stops? With a laser tach, where do you check? Flywheel teeth? I have a cheap chinese oscilloscope, never have turned it on even, but I've been thinking of using that to check the gear counter pulsars output and extrapolate rpm from frequency.

Some more testing today. I switched the #1 and #3 spark plugs on a hunch that maybe #3 was misfiring but still sending an EM signal to the digital tach. This time both cylinders had about the same speed (indicated, obviously they are going the same speed, the tach is reading spark pulses)...

Did some engine testing, I decided to check the pulse count on each individual spark plug wire using a cheap digital tach. 8xx on top and middle, I'll assume cyl 1 and 2, 5xx on bottom or 3. At idle of course. This is a 1997 Suzuki dt75 ( carbed 2 stroke) and has cdi ignition with 3 pulsars...
