I have a 1984 25hp merc that runs great but its a long or x-tra long shaft motor and i use it on a 14ft aluminum boat (not deephull). Does 29mph but i know the motor is way to deep in the water.
I just found a blown up (or close to it) 1986 20 hp merc short shaft and am wondering it i can swap...
Long story short, new to boating, piecing together a 14ft aluminum fishing boat for the family. Got a 1984 merc 25hp control motor for free.
Found out it needed a powerpack and bought one (spark only 1 cyl) Now spark on both.
Motor has controls and are no good to me in a 14ft alum fish boat...

The guy i bought the boat from has a 05 9.9 yamaha that he bought new and had the dealership juice it to a 15hp when he bought it (knows the owners) He said this motor works very well...
