The reason why I need to ask for help is that in my summer vacation place under the sun of Tuscany, Italy, I now have three boats, all with Mercruiser engines, two of them (Chaparral 205 SC and SeaRay EC 250) are 1994 7.4 Thunderbolt, one has a Alpha 1 Gen 2, the other a Bravo 3 drive...
I actually avoid using E 10 like I avoid the devil ! Sorry for my late reply and thank you very much for your help. I verified the clip's position to be ok, the o-rings are not the 'better' quality you mentioned but it is an original kit that I have used before so I would heed your advice from...
It only leaked while priming. While running, I saw the mist in the carb as you described. I'll ask the technician who cleaned the carb about the floaters, thank you so much for the hint !
Thanks so much for the fast reply ! If the float level is set too high or the needle valve is not closing ... would it spill fuel also while running, e.g. idling - or would it spill only when priming ?
Initially I had high fuel consumption, so I first changed the spark plugs and had the carb removed and maintained (Rochester Quadrajet, cleaned and repair kit applied). The accelerator pump gasket was stiff and did not close right (which we thought might be the cause for the higher consumption...
A 7.4 engine serial OF079329 from I believe 1994, probably with the original stock 4 barrel carburetor. The carb has number 9777s 0983 carved in the front. Is this number enough to identify what make and model it is so I can start searching for a repair kit ?
Thank you, alldodge, would really like to read the ECM ! The throttle is mechanic, two cables going to shift and carb i.e. ignition. The ECM is as pictured below; can you determine which model it is, whether it has an interface and what scanner to buy ? That would be awesome !
I am not allowed...
Thank you very much, did just that, disconnected the battery and turned the key to on. In fact, this morning the engine was just fine ... but I like a basic 'cleaning' procedure. I did turn on the radio as you suggested, but from which circuit would it drain existing stray voltage, from the...
Thank you for your incouraging information. Problem that show up then hide then come back to haunt me are my nightmare. Believe it or not I had one of those with a Evinrude 521 from 1988, a crack in the silicone of an ignition coil and entering moisture. Worked like a charm at ties that would...
Thank you so much for the explanation. What means rebooting, is it any engine start up or do I need to do more then switching the engine off and back on ?
The alternator seems to be working ok ... the battery has 12.7 when offline; as soon as the engine runs, the voltage shows 14.4. To me, it means it is charging; and the fact that revving the engine won't bring it over 14.4 means that the regulator should work, too, IMHO.
