    Compression readings after rebuild

OK so I have a mercury v1500 v6 outboard. I think the year is 79. Anyhow before I blew cylinder 1 all cylinders compression tested at about 90 psi. I believe the cause of the engine blowing to be the fact that there were no thermostats installed which I wasn't aware of.. And my main card Jets...

    Failed Cylinder Drop Test

Ok so I have been having problems with lack of power at WOT and intermittent bog and surge. It is a 1978 Mercury V-1500 V6 150hp 2 stroke outboard. Cylinders 1 and 4 seem to have no effect when removing spark plug wires during cylinder drop test. Also using a multimeter RPM gauge cylinders 1 and...

Mercury V-1500 bog and surge at WOT

Hi all! I have a 1978 Mercury V-1500 outboard. The issue I am having is that while running WOT the the motor bogs down then power surges back intermittently. This makes for not so fun ride going fast/slow/fast/slow. I have had this problem over the last few months. For the most part I figured it...

Wiring a fuel gauge to ignition circuit

Can anyone give me advise on wiring a fuel gauge to the ignition circuit so the gauge only reads when the key is turned? I have a 1978 Mecury V-1500 150hp outboard. I have fuel sender with ground to (-) battery terminal, and (S) sender wire going to the (S) terminal on my gauge. I need to...

    Adding Circuit breaker/Fuses

I want to know if I need to add a fuse or circuit breaker to my trim pump and ignition which are on my side mount controls. I also have lights and a fuel gauge which do not have any fuses or circuit breakers either. I bought the boat this way, but I would like to make it as safe as possible.

Tilt/Trim not working after reinstalling outboard motor

I just replaced the transom, stringers, and deck on my Bonito bowrider boat. The motor works great and cranks right over as it should. Before removing the motor to do the above mentioned work the tilt/trim worked fine. In the nearly one year spent sitting in my garage the trim cylinders with...

    18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration

Re: 18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration So I just got back from Lowes and bought two 16oz bottles of Titebond III. That was the largest size they had. I hope that is enough to do the transom. When I glue, I was thinking of making sure there was at the very least one good solid bead about 1-2...

    18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration

Re: 18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration Another pic where you can see the aluminum plate that was put on to support the old rotten transom.

    18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration

Re: 18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration I think mine is a 1984 I forget. I will have to check the title later. I recently had to format/restore my computer and lost a lot of pics. I did manage to find a couple of old pics from my old place.

    18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration

Re: 18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration So I ended up getting rained out. Typical Florida weather. I did manage to get some grinding done before the rain came though. Since it was wet outside I decided I would do a rough cut of the transom wood. At this point I plan on laminating the two...

Re: 18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration Here are a few pics. The tools of the trade =) Respirator, goggles, angle grinder...gimme something to grind. I have just been wearing long sleeve shirt, pants and shoes and work gloves while grinding. I know some prefer a tyvek suit though. The other...

    18ft Bonito Bowrider Restoration

I have a 18 FT Bonito Bowrider with an outboard. In the process of sole, stringer, and transom replacement. I am almost ready to install new materials and have a question about filler materials. I have cabosil, glass microballoons, and un-waxed polyester laminating resin. I need to know if I...
