That’s a great and simple idea! Why didn’t o think of that?! Thanks. It’s a 4.3 carb engine, so I believe that might be the 190HP version. Somewhere someone must have a chart showing serial number to model conversion though. It’s the last digit on that SX-? That I’d really like to know...
Hope this is the right place to ask this question:
Bought a 1997 FourWinns last year with 4.3VP SX stern drive. Unfortunately there is no tag on the drive. I’m trying to ID the exact model of SX & gear ratio. The faded sticker on the valve cover has these numbers:
Model no 3868413
Ser no...
Thanks for the replies. I think the noise I'm hearing is the down relay getting tired and not making good contact. Not looking to fix something that's not broken, but I don't like surprises so I'd rather have a spare part on hand. The fill procedure in the manual says to fill with drive in...
Hope this is the correct location for this post. Background - I have a 1997 Four Winns Horizon, VP SX outdrive that I bought last fall that I am “going through”. Noticed that the trim pump was making what can be best described as a “missing” sound mechanically. The motor was running but it...
There is a light in there, but it’s burned out. That’s why I want to change it. It just appears to be a sealed plastic round thing. It works except the light so I figured easy swap like EVERY OTHER GUAGE, but noooo. The tach is totally different from every other gauge so here I am. It’s fine...
I’m just trying to tap into the knowledge base before I head down that path and waste time that I don’t have. It looks like a sealed unit, so I’m trying to find out how if it can even be taken apart. It works fine, so no sense in screwing it up over a light bulb.
I just got finished installing LED bulbs in all my instruments EXCEPT my tachometer. Boat is a 1996 Four Winns Horizon. I've attached a pic of the back of the tach. On all my other gauges there was a little hole with a bulb holder that I could simply swap out the bulb, but the tech appears to...
I have a 97 Horizon 180 and the previous owner had a new starter installed a couple years ago. Labor was $450, so it doesn’t sound Like they had to pull the engine. Theres a plastic separator on panel next to the battery that allows access to the starter area.
Just bought a ‘97 Four Winns with a VP Penta SX-M and am systematically going through everything. Next project will be gimbal bearing and bellows and possibly U-joints. The transom on this boat only gives about 1.25” to access the starboard zerk for gimbal greasing so I’m thinking that it...
