Does anyone have any pictures of the gear linkage and throttle connection on a 1978 80 hp mercury. I want to check if mine is connected properly and also what is the correct part for locking the gear cable onto the shaft.
I have just replaced the water jacket and exhaust plates on my 1978 80hp Merc. when I lay it over to replace the bottom bearing I noticed the gap shown by the arrows. Is this ok? Should that gap be there?
Can anyone give me the correct torque settings for both the cylinder head water jacket bolts and the exhaust plate cover bolts. I am getting conflicting advice from the 2 manuals that I have down loaded. Also what is the best grease to put on the bottom crankshaft bearing before I replace it. Thanks

Chris 1956, thanks for your reply. The plug does have 3 female connections but as you can see one is damaged / burnt. I will try to clean it up and then connect all 3 wires separately. Can I assume the horizontal connection is for the purple wire? I have also attached 2 pics of what I believe...
Does anybody have any experience or an exploded drawing of this control box? I would like to pull it apart as I think the upper button and the trailer button for the power trim aren't working.
