I would like to clean the cooling system in my 1965 9.5hp Johnson. I have been told that T.S.P. works well, but what I am wondering is if it would be best to use hot water in the barrel and if I should remove the thermostat? Or is there a better solution to use for this?

I have read that some 9.9hp Johnsons can be converted to a 15hp by simply changing the carb. I was wondering if the same can be done with my 1965 9.5hp?
