    Noisy 33

Thanks Before I began, I brought both pistons to tdc and backed them down about an inch or twr turning the flywheel clockwise then pushed against the piston with a wood dowel. No movement or sign of slack on either. If there is another test I will try that.

    Noisy 33

I got this 1969 33 hp Evinrude in a property cleanup earlier this summer. It wasn't locked up and has even 124 psi in both cylinders. Rotating the flywheel produced no grinding or clunking noisis from within so I decided to get up and running. I remove the powerhead, cleaned it up and gave it...

1958 Evinrude Bigtwin 35/1969 Evinrude Ski Twin 33 powerhead swap

I know the Lark in 1958 and 1959 were very different from the Bigtwin. Mine is a 25936. At the end of the day my 1958 is worn out. My father bought it new and it saw regular April-October use from day one up till about 10 years ago. Getting noisy in the bottom end. Always run 24-1 fuel but...

1958 Evinrude Bigtwin 35/1969 Evinrude Ski Twin 33 powerhead swap

I was planning on keeping the 69’s flywheel. Crankshaft and taper are larger. I seem to have much to consider here. Thanks

1958 Evinrude Bigtwin 35/1969 Evinrude Ski Twin 33 powerhead swap

Thanks. That was my intention. I was planning to use the 33’s flywheel and ring gear while keeping the 35’s starter and starter brackets. I’ll do some test fitting before the actual swap. Not planning to transfer the compression release but will transfer the 35’s recoil starter. Thanks...

1958 Evinrude Bigtwin 35/1969 Evinrude Ski Twin 33 powerhead swap

Good morning, I am considering swapping a 1969 Ski Twin 33 Model # 33903A powerhead onto my 1958 Bigtwin 35 Model# 25936. I have a decent 33 motor in my collection. The 33 hp block looks identical and the mounting bolt pattern on the base and the exhaust housing is identical. Both motors use...

Evinrude, 1958 Bigtwin 35. Upper drive shaft seal and bushing

I am working on sealing up my lower unit. I pressure tested the unit with 5 psi and the only leak is at the driveshaft seal (313284) under the water pump. I have removed the seal. I found that the bronze bushing (304084) just under the seal is loose in the bore. It is not sloppy loose but i...

    Johnson 28 SPL

Thank you for the replies. The motor was part of an estate sale. I checked out the motor yesterday and passed on it. It would have been a great deal at ($150.00) if everything had checked out. But from what I found on my initial inspection, it looked to be a major project kind of motor...

    Johnson 28 SPL

I am going to look at a Johnson 28 SPL outboard tomorrow. I am going to check for spark, compression and water in the lower unit. Aside from those checks what else should I look for? I don't know the year but from what I have seen it appears to me mid to late 80's. I'll check the serial...

    Suzuki DT 65 Oil Filter

My 1987 Suzuki DT-65 had developed an oil leak. Turned out to be the oil filter was leaking at the seam. I have a new filter. and some line. I want to replace the line between the tank and filter and the filter and oil pump. I plan to replace the lines and filter but before I connect the line to...

1958 Evinrude Bigtwin 35 Excessive oil drainage

I have been noticing that my motor is increasingly discharging unburned two cycle oil from the crankcase into the leg and lt discharges through the water intake bypass at the long plate with holes above the cavitation plate. It is now also draining from the small hole/vent above the gear case...

Throttle response issues "87 Suzuki DT-65

We recently acquired a 1987 Suzuki 65 hp two stroke outboard. Compression an even 130 in one, two and three. Installed new water pump kit and resealed lower unit. All three plugs brown but a little oily. After come checks we started it in a tank and it ran well at idle. Once on the boat out on...

Re sealing lower unit 58 Bigtwin 35

I am in the process of resealing the lower unit. I have had some water intrusion. I have the unit apart. Bushings, bearings and all surfaces are in good shape. I would like to replace the small o ring in the shift rod bushing too. I understand the bushing needs to be driven out with a long...
