I just bought a 1997 2 stroke 15hp Evinrude that is supposed to have very low hours.It runs well but the bubbles from the exhaust are pretty smokey, is it just set to rich or something else ?

Will this engine pump water using ear muffs or do you need to use the hose attacthment ?
I went and looked at this motor yesterday and the shop used ear muffs and it wouldnt pump ,they didnt try the attatchment.
