Re: Help with Engine Alignment -- Mercruiser 165 -- Hopeful Pics Will Help
Thanks. Have read the instructions, read the manual, watched several Youtube videos and still not getting it. Another set of pictures offered. Same convention as the first set starting from the top then turning...
1979 Mercruiser 165. The double spiral lock washers are in each side. Engine was out for rebuild. Front wood solid. Here's what I've got.
The pics show the alignment tool and its grease witness marks starting from the top then rotatining counterclockwise 90 degrees (looking from the rear)...
Need help if anyone can. Boat is a late 70s Mercruiser 165 equipped Glastron. It had the trim sending unit and trim limit switch both fried. Their pigtails gone at the transom.
Inside the boat found the wire pair that goes to the trim limit switch. They're seen in one of the pictures. No...
For a late 70s Mercruiser 165 equipped Glastron boat. Both the sending unit for the trim gauge and the trim limit switch were toast. Wires broke off at the transom. Replaced switches and found the pair with their connectors still attached that go to the limit switch. Not sure of the correct...
Over the winter hope to do some trailer repair/maintenance but will be limited by no place to leave the boat in the water. Boat is an old late 70s Glastron.
I do have a two post automotive lift in my shop. The kind with two arms on each side that slide in and out under the car. Are there...
Posting this out of an abundance of caution as it seems obvious enough. But too far in to this project not to take advantage of the site's experience just in case there's something outside the obvious that's a consideration here.
In the pic see a lip broken away on the housing to the rear of...
On a late 70s boat. Both the Mercruiser manual and a Clymer manual show a one wire alternator in their schematics. The boat has the alternator pictured installed however.
Discovered the discrepancy because the white spliced to yellow/tan/whatever it is wire seen in the picture had no...
Working on a late 70s Mercruiser 165 equipped boat. Trim gauge dead. Original direct replacement unavailable. Are there generic aftermarket gauges that could be used to replace it?
From a late 70s Mercruiser 165. Is this a casting that's been eaten through? I didn't expect to see water channel directly open to exhaust flow.
Alternatively, if this is how it's supposed to be I'd appreciate it if someone would explain to me how this sytem works. As it obviuosly doesn't...
I recently got an old boat. I have a nice shop. Put one and one together and now friends think I'm a marine mechanic. Silly boys. A little help please if someone knows and would offer.
Buddy drug an old Mercruiser equipped boat out of long term storage. Trim goes down but doesn't go up (I...
Assume the line is clear for a reason. What's its purpose and what does one watch for in the line? Application is a late 1970s Mercruiser 165.
Also, the fuel pump on this engine is a serviceable pump. Anyone know if rebuild kits are still available?
Thanks.
Re: Question on Rear Motor Mount Pins -- Can't Remove
Hopefully I figured out the way to attach a file here. If so the image in this post is the rear mount scheme I'm working with. The bolts won't come out. Anyone ever run in to this before?
The bolts look to be at the top edge of but not...
Hate beating my head against a wall on something that should be simple, probably is, but I'm just not seeing. Here's what's up:
A friend brought a spare everything from the motor back. Including the cut out transom. Lots of good spares for the new-to-me Mercruiser 165. Started last night to...
If someone is familiar with a difference I'm seeing here thanks for whatever insights you might offer. Question is:
Have a new to me old Glastron with a Mercruiser 165. Now that it's here and giving it a little freshening up old boat parts/ideas/requests for rides/etc etc etc are coming out...
Have a 250 Chevy inline six that's a Mercruiser 165. Generally unmolested original drive train in an old 79 model boat.
It has an old points type distributor. I can visually see the differences between the marine alternator and starter from what their automotive counterparts would be. Can't...
