The exploded view of my 70 yamaha shows inner and outer exhaust covers....I just want to verify that these are what I need to take off to check out the valves, and not the cylinder head cover.
Not that I know what 'check the valves' really entails.

I have been asked to remove the valve cover and look at the valves...but, stupidly, can't find it/them in the SELOC diagrams for my 70hp 2-stroke outboard.

Is it mandatory to ground the plug wires when doing a compression test? Or can I just engage the kill switch? (remove the little red clip under the key start)
