Thx. Will look in the factory repair manual a bit to see more. Maybe will replace upper and lower out of caution. VRO was taken out 20 years ago, I mix 50:1 oil in gas.
Would there be a knocking if camshaft itself was bad? Everything I have seen is flywheel play with rattle is probably the upper bearing, and if no knocking crankshaft is probably fine. But nothing has been definitive. Rattle/tapping just started within last 2 hours of use.

All compression 115 to 119 (got a new gauge). Gear oil isn't leaking and has about 2 to 3 hours on it since changed.

Heard a rattle today taking off from the dock. Sounded "tinny" like metal on metal (like the flywheel and flywheel nut). Got slightly louder with increasing RPM but otherwise ran fine. Drove about 3 miles. Shut motor off and sat an hour.

After a bunch of testing it seems it was the regulator/rectifier.
So I just got done installing an OEM rectifier/regulator.
There are two yellow wires on the part. There is no yellow/gray wire.
Does it matter which of the yellow wires I connect to the yellow/gray connection on the terminal strip?
Was typing this out as trying things, ended up a little longer than anticipated.
Battery was 12.8 volts at rest.
Turned key to accessory and it was 12.8 v.
Ran it at idle about 1000 rpm and it was 13.2 v.

Got the snap washer out. I have a pair of pliers designed for those, but was only able to get one side in the hole because the hole is small and the washer is in there a ways. But got it out of the groove enough to get the whole thing out with needle nose pliers.
