    Confirmed that there was only one head gasket installed. However, when I opened up and took a closer look at the top piston there is some damage on it.(see pix) The walls still look good. Is the damage enough to cause overheating?

    I’m going to crack it back open any ways to check the canals are clear so I will verify that also then.

    Yes. Tab up. But there was no gasket when I opened it up. Previous person who worked on it used some sort of gasket glue.
