Cheers... I have a 1979 70hp 3cylinder Merc with stator, trigger, rectifier, 3coils - no points. The plugs fire hot and blue and in time when out of the motor, but when replaced in the motor - no fire (checked with a timing light). The battery is hot and spins the starter fast. Someone suggested...

I have a 1963 Merc 1000 inline six. Can ayone tell me what to hook the tach to? Some say rectifyer at one of the stator leads - others say coil on the positive side. I have two coils. Anyone? Thanks, Dave

On an earlier post I was telling of a friend who recently repowered his boat. He went from a 1985 Mariner 40 HP to a 1962 Merc 500 (just to keep the correlation between motor and boat). His old Mariner 40 pushed the boat around 30 mph and the lighter weight 4 cylinder Merc 50 only...

I have a friend who has just retro fitted his 13' MFG runabout with a 1962 Merc 500. This is one clean Merc 500. Great compression! Looks and runs like new. We fitted it to the boat and took it out last week with the old two blade prop which came on it. The engine ran great all day...

I have an old Boston Whaler Montauk 17'. It currently has a 1979 70 horse 3 cyl. Mercury. A friend of mine wants to trade me a 115 Mercury inline six for it (circa 198?). The boat is rated for a max of 100hp. I'm not sure whether or not to trade...I could use the extra speed, but I'm not sure...
