OK, got everything back together and was gonna check compression and as you can see in the video, the starter motor is spinning but will not rise up and engage the flywheel. :mad: It was working fine yesterday, I don't get it. I did check compression by pull starting it and got a really good...
OK, I was stressing yesterday,:eek: but I'm back, the motor is NOT at the bottom of the lake! :) I'm so thankful for this site.:D Since the little crack that I thought was certain death for the old girl, is not, I can get back to the last little problem before calling this restoration complete...

This is what the inside looked like after running in barrel. Normal?? Oil everywhere. Even leaking out a hole in side. IDK!

Here's a better picture of the crack. Is this something that can be JB Welded? Or what about putting some kinda sealant up inside the bolt hole and then use a shorter bolt for LU? The bolt is what cracked it when tightened...

. Just emptied out all the water from tub I was running it in. Wow!! Holy oil! The water was filled with oil and this picture is of the motor after coming out of it. What's that all about?

Why on the parts diagram for cylinder and crankcase, for my 72 evinrude 18202r does it show needing 10 head bolts and only 8 washers. Parts # 22 and #30. Do two of the head bolts not have washers? I have 10 bolts and 9 of them have washers. Just a little confused and if I only need 8 washers...
I have a new head gasket ordered. While I'm waiting can I do anything to clean up the head before reinstalling it? I know about laying it on a sheet of glass and using sandpaper to clean up and true it, but should I soak it in parts cleaner, or scrub it down or anything?

I received my new thermostat housing gasket. Just wondering if I need to use any gasket sealant or anything, or just put it in with nothing. I have Permatex Black silicone adhesive sealant. Should I use that, or something else or nothing? Happy Easter!!
