I am trying to remove the stern drive on a 1981 Thundercraft I/O 120 Mercruiser 4 cyl Manual shows it to be easy or at least simple, how ever, I have the stern drive half the way off and it seems jammed or stuck on something inside manual shows nothing that it would catch on. any suggestions...

any tips or suggestions on repair will be helpfull. I have found a cracked area around the center hull (top to bottom) toward the front quarter of the port side. I'm not shure how bad or if it leaks but I am taking on water somewhere. If you can help I'm working on it tomorrow afternoon
I've studied this problem with previously posted questions and answers and removed the starter cleaned up the shaft,bendix and lubed with lith grease and still the starter spins but dosen't engauge if you crank the starter long enough it will finally engage but I don't want my starter burning up...
