I hear lots on conflicting information on 2 stroke oil. Chrysler/Force owners are a "frugal", some call it "cheap" group. So why spend more on oil than we need to. We also know that we want our old outboards to last. Otherwise we will have to anti-up really big bucks for another brand of outboard. So, what has been your experience with 2 stroke oil for Chrysler/Force outboards.

Yes, you do. Lots of opinions out there on brands, synthetic/non synthetic/synthetic blend, etc. I use Quicksilver Premium Syn Blend, mainly because it is readily available in my area. As long as it is TC-W3 rated it is all good. Some use Walmart Super Tech with good results. Some say it smokes more than others......have no data or proof of that, though. Oil threads usually end up with everybody thinking THEIR brand is the best. Main thing is to not use 2 stroke oil designed for air cooled engines, as they run at much higher temps.

I buy a lot of the Super Tech TC-W3 to use as a diesel fuel additive for my diesel truck. So I have it on hand if I ever run out of the Quicksilver oil.....wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Some say the Yamalube and other high priced oils are better. Less fouling and less smoke and better protection. It's about $40 a gallon but if it is truly better it's worth it.

I have been using Pennzoil XLF for the last 6 years. I bought a gallon of Yamalube. I'll post the results

piston carbon.jpg

A look at the piston top from a few days ago. A little carbon around the edges but otherwise shiny and clean in the middle.

I always run 50:1 and Pennzoil XLF 2 stroke oil. I did discover my carb jets where one size too big. My 1974 Chrysler 135hp has Tillotson TC-5A's carbs, I installed some rebuilt ones a few years ago and they must have had the wrong jets in them and I never checked. The jets were 0.0960. My parts book says they should be 0.0937. So I'm gonna swap in the 0.0937 jets.

I was wondering, most of the lakes I run on are at 1000 ft above sea level. Since this is a old motor should I go to 0.0920 jets? How truly dangerous is it to go to leaner jets? Thx

Last 2 stroke big motor I had was aYam 90hp and The company I worked for sold Valvoline outboard oil, and I got it at cost +5% so I used that and had no issues

We always ran OMC or Mercury TCW oils in our outboards for more than 35 yrs, never had a Engine Failure, nor did they ever have any significant carbon on the Pistons. I would be more worried about Carbon building up behind the Rings. There a good Engine Cleaner, and I mean Good, not that SeaFoam crap, to keep the Rings free of Carbon

Seafoam's a JOKE!!!
The very best oil is Amsoil, also the most expensive.
I had a pair of 1988 Force 85hp. used them for over 30 years.
They were new and before TCW-3 the oils produced were purposely made to carbon up, both motors the rings carboned up. I caught them before the motors got ruined.
Then TCW-3 was produced and over the next 28+ years the motors had no problem with carbon.
The oil I used was ANY oil I could buy, mostly used Wal-Mart oil (I'm cheap).
After almost 30 years the transom bracket and T@T units(both) failed from salt water exposure. I broke them down and sold them as parts. Both blocks still running. Never had one come back.
Use what you can afford. Look into Amsoil and how great it is.

Maintaining the cooling system on a 2 stroke is also very important for proper lubrication.

cooling system seems correct, good thermostat amd good flow. My lazer temp sensor say very good temps all over the engine. It has primarily been a fresh water motor so the internals seem good.
