I have a 1988 Mercury 115 I6 that I am working on. The previous owner was having fuel delivery issues and attempted to replace the fuel pump with a cheap ebay aftermarket. That pump failed and he went with an electric pump which he never got working correctly. I am ditching the electric pump and have obtained an appropriate Quicksilver pump. My problem is that in removing the old mechanical pump the previous owner also removed and discarded the Fuel pump mounting plate. The plate (part numbers 14439 or 14439A2) appears to be unobtainable as a new part, I am also not able to find the gasket. I am seeking suggestions on how to get around this. Here is what I am considering:
- Finding a used part. I have done a brief search and found a few placed that i intend to email, but I feel like this is a bit of a longshot
- Tap the holes directly on the block and install fittings. I feel like this will work as long as i don't screw up the tapping.
- I have found a listing for the base plate (used) to the old style fuel pump, which mounted directly to the block using the same holes as the new style pump's mounting plate. I am considering buying this and tapping it rather than the block and just making my own gasket. (Photo of this attached)
