I have a 65 9.5 twin sport that I’m having an issue with the armature I’m guessing. It doesn’t turn back and forth as much as I believe it should. Throttle indicator only goes down to shift and stops. Removed the shift linkage thinking maybe it was that and still the same issue. What am I missing? I removed the idle thumb screw bracket also and it’s not hitting the stop tab or anything else I can see under the plate. I will like a video to show the limited movement. I’ve watched countless other videos on this engine and there’s moves much more in both directions.

Right at the beginning of the video there is a pivot screw missing at the front.----Great big hole in that linkage.--Screw is item #46 I believe.

Thanks but I do have that I just have all of that removed to show that it’s not in the throttle linkage that’s keeping it from turning as much as it should.

Oh well----Sorry.----You would have to bring it to a shop.---Could likely see what is wrong in seconds.

recheck your lever and pin follower that rotates when the underside of the mag plate turns against it . I had mine installed incorrectly and had a similar jamming problem

did you try rotating the side idle adjust knob for more leeway on the linkage

Mine doesn’t have a knob on the side of the handle like that. I think it’s one year off from having that style handle. I have an idle adjustment butterfly screw with a linkage under the engine cover and it’s basically maxed out just to touch the cam. I did check the lever and pin and I can still push it farther out even when it’s turned to “full throttle. So I don’t think it’s hanging up on that. The thing is it won’t go either way as far as it’s supposed to from what I’ve found.

the mag plate should rotate on it own if the linkage is not hook-up to it and kill wires to the switch do not snag. if ok then the linkage is not installed properly ...one problem I had was setting up the mating teeth in the throttle and a worn part

That’s what I don’t understand as you see in the video the linkage is not even hooked up and it’s still being limited. I thought for sure that’s what it was but it’s not. I can’t see anything that would be keeping it from turning. I’m stumped. It does run and seems to run okay. I might just have to just leave it like it is and hope that it’s good. I just recently got it and haven’t taken it out and just wanted to have everything in tip top shape and this is the only thing I cannot figure out.

Alright I figured it out. For some reason I basically had to force the armature plate back and forth more and more back and forth and eventually it freed up enough I could use the linkage to move it. Not sure why it was like that because I have had it all apart and all greased up.

Sometimes the screws for the replacement coils are too long.---Interfere with rotation.
