Looking to get one for 5 to 10 mile trips. Small grocery and beer runs, maybe to local river to put something below a pencil bobber. I'd do pedal assist.

Any thoughts?

I have a couple friends who have them and they are big fans. One of the guys even bought a kit to adapt a pedal-powered bike into an e-bike with pedal assist. Those things can haul! Perfect for the short trips you mentioned.

I always recharge the batteries OUTSIDE in the middle of the driveway to stop a spreading fire to house or dry grass area nearby.

The folks that have them that I know also like them. They are pretty cool, I tried a neighbors. The big issue is fires, most are made in China, or at least the electrical part is, and they do have a reputation of having electrical issues. Just have a safe place to charge them and check with your insurance company....same thing if you want an electric vehicle.....

Those LIPO batteries do not start slowly with smoke. They heat up then go directly to intense flame and toxic smoke. Fire companies leave the battery fire alone. Spray water on everything around the blaze. Best they can do.
I had to do a web search on this ODD fact about Lithium battery fires.

So the Lithium batteries inside of your cruiser engine area catch fire ? Heat, toxic fumes, fireball ? I will stay with Lead Acid battery.
he battery fire is VERY HOT. So hot that it causes the sprayed on water to break down into Hydrogen and Oxygen gas. Result is a hotter and faster EXPANDING FIRE !! Rapidly igniting ALL of the batteries faster.
Charge batteries OUTSIDE of the building. Kind of hard in winter temperatures ?

Soon EVs will be treated the same as Propane fueled Vehicles, banned from indoors.

I've been charging my Chinese made ryobi lithium batteries for many a year in my garage and in the back of my sportwagon on an inverter for five years. Dewalt assembles in the US but parts are china and Mexico. Phones catch fire on planes. Etc.

I don't over blow life. I'm prepared.

Phones, laptops, Cameras, actually anything with a Li-ion Battery are not, by Law, allowed to be in Checked Luggage. Cabin Fire Extinguishers are handle these kinds of Fires, but not the Suppression Systems in the Cargo Holds

LiFeP04 batteries are relatively safe, much safer than other lithium batteries with different chemical make ups.

As far as a bike. Lots of guys are using them for hunting, lots of reviews on hunting web sites.

I converted my beach bike but it doesn’t have pedal assistance. I love it and it’s a lot of fun.
No fires as of yet🤞. My buddy has his rigged up just for fishing. Never has a problem finding parking.
There was ev car fire here years ago that took over 30,000 gallons of water to put out. It’s worse than the old VW magnesium engine blocks.

I'm sure you're aware of the different classes of e-bikes. If not, here's a rundown. There's a ton of manufacturers out there, it's just a matter of what you want to pay. They're extremely popular. At state parks I see way more e-bikes than the "old" pedal versions...

Some of them are crazy power and fast.
There a guy in my neighborhood that rides wheelies on his at 40mph. He’s smart enough to wear a helmet.
