Hi all,

Hope this is the right place to put this :) I have had an amazing mechanic for 10 years, but he is unfortunately retiring. I've heard such horror stories about marine mechanics... people overcharging hours, skimming off the top on parts, doing a bad job, the list goes on.

I prefer to have a single go-to mechanic who does a good job and is fair & honest--and who won't judge me when I try to do something myself but get in over my head and they have to come fix whatever I broke, haha! So I'm looking for a mobile mechanic somewhere around the SF Bay Area in California.

Definitely a long shot but there's a lot of wisdom here on iboats. Anyone know of a good mobile mechanic or all-around-maintenance person around the SF Bay Area? Would love to meet them and hopefully build a relationship! Need some work done in the very near future so I'd be able to give them something basically right off the bat, if that matters at all :)

Thank you all

Often there is an option inside your area Craigslist under “Services” that has a Marine specific area where the local mobile servicing technicians tend to post their availability...Here should be your area...,

Thanks. I've seen them but I either a) don't get a response; or b) there's maybe only 5 there (they all just post their ad multiple times) and I've been warned by a non-negligible number of independent people to stay far away from 3 of them for various reasons. I was hoping there might be a community on iboats that might know of another resource.... for example, my old mechanic was not on craigslist, I met him through word of mouth at the boat yard :)

But it sounds like... nothing to do but use a bad mechanic. Bummer. Hopefully someone can chime in eventually with a good recommendation, but if not, thanks anyways y'all!
