Actually, many of the home fires from cheap Lipo batteries have been found to have defective chargers that cause the batteries to catch fire. Many of these cheap Chineseium chargers are poorly built and short out causing the fires. While the Lipo batteries can be an issue, the majority of fires studied came from faulty chargers.

It's almost always a cheap charger and or poor quality batteries with horrible battery management causing the fire. We get calls nearly non-stop for them. It's almost never a name brand component but rather a off brand/lower quality piece. The cordless drill components and the like are under way better quality control. You do occasionally get an old laptop and old phones.

We have had a few where the bike was parked after a ride and the battery went up, no charging or nothing. Just ignited sitting parked. I suspect either it was heat related or the pack was damaged at some point. There typically isn't much left once we get there to take a look.

I don't not trust good quality components but it's just that. I'd charge outside and away from anything flammable.

Why I only use Lead Acid wet batteries. In all machines that come into the garage for any reason.

My neighbor rode his bike over yesterday, he bought a 49cc motor kit that mounted to a regular pedal bike, he said he paid less than $200 for it. It goes pretty fast.

Yep. I posted a link to one above. I know a guy that put one on an old bike he made look like an early HD. Thing was pretty cool and moved right along.

I had one back in the day. It would about 25mph and was great on gas.

OK, so why should I care in an ebike situation? The only load is the bike, not other stuff.

Side note ... I'm down tow two brands both UL certified batteries.

Climbing a hill or if you need to accelerate, higher wattage means it'll do that faster should you need to. Starting to roll etc. At least I would think....

however there is something about the smell of 2-strokes......
Agreed, that's why stick with old outboards, especially on a still morning with a light fog. But, trying to keep up with the times plus no liscence required should that be a concern.

are E-bike motors brushed or BLDC? if BLDC, they can manage the inrush. if brushed, you get a huge spike.

I havent dug into the E-bike rabbit holes enough to look.

however I agree, get the most power you can afford.

All a moot point, the one I chose was delivered yesterday but my above question stands.

I also should have clarified what it's intended use was. For me it will be to get to our little country mart half mile away but when I had my pedal bike I could not keep a speed that kept me safe. It's a road that can be scary in a car, let alone a pedal bike. It is about a half mile straight stretch that is a racetrack for idiots about half the time. We've lost two mailboxes, overturned in the ditch and folks up the road with brick mailboxes gone and people in hospitals.

Our booze store is about three miles away. TN has no drunk biking law.

A much better county market is about 8 miles away, couple decent hills along the way.

Short term my danish family is coming in July for a few weeks and bringing a 17 yo niece I've not met and in bike centric Denmark most people do not get a drivers license until their 20s, plus it cost several thousand dollars. There is a high probability that even tho we have a pool and su h that a 17 yo will want to disconnect from her step-mom and dad and we have several thing to do in less than 10 mile radius that she can escape to.

Here is what I landed on.

I was going to say you should have gotten it with the basket since you want it for trips to the store ... but at $250 more for the basket ... NO WAY! LOL! Who bumped their head in marketing?
