My driver's license road test was about 30 seconds. Parallel parking, 2 stop signs and a stop at the start. May as well have been written only.
Mine too. But I also picked out the easiest place to road test then.

The state actually assigned me if I remember correctly. It didn't really matter. I practiced inline backing in the work trucks, with trailers and CDL drivers etc. I was expecting so much more from it.

That and the fact I'd been driving boats since I was like 4.

According to USCG records accidents had been on a downward trend for a number of years prior to Covid, then spiked again.

Top causes of accidents per USCG
1. Operator inattention
2. Improper lookout
3. Operator inexperience
4. Excessive speed
5. Machinery failure
6. Navigation rules violation
7. Alcohol
8. Weather / Hazardous conditions

Not sure what issue on-line boaters training is going to fix……you can’t “teach” common sense (top three) ;)

Virginia has had one for quite a while. It's better than nothing. OFC, the cops here aren't allowed to pull someone over anymore for "suspicion" of anything, or for a safety check, so zero is enforced. Also, where I'm at on the Potomac we have this weird split between USCG and feds (up by Dahlgren air force base), VA police, MD police, and PRFC police. What ends up happening is nobody does anything.
