Intermediate shift shaft play?

I have an early Alpha outdrive and am doing a minor tear-down. I noticed that the intermediate shift shaft is very loose in the bushing. Shaft measures .5625" and the bushing is .6075". Shaft does not show excessive wear, but impossible to tell if the bushing is worn. The play in the shaft seems like way too much, but maybe it's supposed to be.

Help a girl out?

It isn’t the tightest fit when new but based on your comments replace the bushing and seal likely is needed based on your comments
