guess it’ll be a new ram for me eventually

Have to agree, I have never seen one spin that easy.

There are a few on ebay for under 100

No it would have to be a pretty significant hook to turn the about at 10 knots. Also there is something clearly wrong with my ram so I’m sure that’s the case

Now hang on. You said you have had this problem as long as you have owned the boat. This might be a long shot, but I would remove the steering unit and disassemble it, just to see how the shims look. Perhaps one or more is missing?

Having seen what is inside the valve part, I have a problem believing the metal parts can wear very much. They do not move fast and are bathed in power steering fluid all the time.

I just grabbed the outdrive and tried to pull it to port. It would not budge. I tried pulling it to starboard and I was able to pull it right over. As I did the hel turned as well. When I tried to pull it back to center it would go a few inches then stop. I continued moving it back to starboard then back towards center and each time it would not go as far back to port as it did previously.
I have this same exact issue with my boat. Did you end up fixing this. I'm baffled.
