if you do use heli coil inserts just make certain your insert is not long enough to extend past the thread normal area inside the and outside . Inserts come in different lengths

follow procedure to install and punch it properly to lock it in place

I also bought a kit and yes it was pretty easy. Took me about a half hour, but I was being very cautious.

Now I got another problem that is kicking my butt. I got it started and it ran pretty decent:

While trying to dial in the jets it started sneezing. Eventually I ran out of adj with the knobs and gave up for the day.

Took the knobs/linkage off. That's all I did to it. A few days ago was going to try to set the carbs again and now it won't stay running. Starts right up, but it runs for like 1-2 seconds, and dies. Doesn't seem like the throttle is doing much of anything, but I can barely give it gas before it quits. It must have done this 40x. Always starts, never stays running.

Checked for spark, seems OK. Messed with the ignition plate a little because the roller is jamming up tight against it before tiller throttle seems all the way open. Plate doesn't seem to have a whole lot of adjustment either. I do think though that the throttle is fully open.

Anyhow I could use an idea or two. At this point all I can think of to do is to take the carb apart again. I got a filter on this motor though, so shouldn't have sucked up any crud.

Punch it? Could you elaborate a bit? I used the shortest insert but this kit had no installation tool. So I put Loctite on the insert and Never Seize on the plug threads. I've yet to try to remove it. I'm a bit worried though, because I tightened the assembly pretty good. More than I would for the plug alone.

with my kit I have a tool to seat the insert in place by punching it with a hammer blow.

this is to lock those little perimeter spikes in the surrounding material .

I see a broken recoil in the future.
I know, right? My arm was getting sore. Replaced the rope and rewound the spring and it's working better now. Any thoughts on why it suddenly is dying on me? At first it was idling half-way decently. Pretty sure it's getting spark and fuel.

dying comes bad fuel flow no sparks or bad condensers shorting out under heat.
I'm thinking fuel because it has new coils and it's dead cold, not starting. I didn't know that about the condensers though. Thanks for the tip.

Question: Could it be the fuel tank? There is gas in the filter and the bulb seems hard, but that's the only change from when it ran and when it wouldn't. I realized yesterday that the test start was on a tank that was low on fuel so I grabbed another one that was pretty full. Maybe that one has a problem. That's the only thing that changed. Except for the plug insert, but that shouldn't matter, should it? Attaching a pics of one of the inserts in my kit. No knurling. No directions either. I dunno how the heck they're supposed to stay put to be honest.

they stay put with lock tite ... blue is semi permanet red is permannet so use blue ¸if the insert rim interfeers with the plug the cyl head needs to be reamed a bit to sink it below the edge see utubes...
