I have a 16ft 1979 Viking 160 deckboat/trihaul. The boat is rated for 115 hp, but will it still get some good speed with a newer and smaller outboard?

Depends on how much less HP and if your staying with 2 stroke motor. If your thinking of 4 stroke then your also adding more weight

You would need about 20 definite facts of running , Acceleration from a stop. Time to get on plane. Current prop specifications. GPS speed. Accurate tachometer. Different boat loads at all speeds. Do you FORCE people to sit so the boat is always balanced in all directions ? Or do they sit where they want to ? And a lot more.

Depends on condition of the boat.----Could be water logged.-----Depends on what you want for maximum speed.

110hp will be about 1 mph slower

Regarding the Fishing, if you are fishing just beyond the Dock, even a 20hp would probably be fine. But if you have to get up on Plane to get to the Fishing, then very close to, or the Max would be wise
