Shift cable adjustment

My shift has so some issue. Sometime it cannot move forward when I push. do you have the step by step to do the adjustment of shift cable? I know there is 6 ,inches

my boat is Mercruiser 2.5L and now I replaced it with 3.0. sometime the gear cannot bite when push it forward

the 14 mm or 9/16" play in cable measures the lower cable for stretch. if too much play you need to replace the cable. This is done my measuring how much it moves by hand. Unless the cable is newer would s this is your issue

the slot on the reverse lever is only used if you cannot get into reverse AFTER properly setting forward.

Get a factory manual for your drive all this is outlined in detail
