96 Evinrude 20 no charge

Charging coils and what I think they call ignition coil were bad. Broken wire on charging coils and ignition coil was melted. I replaced those and the rectifier as that was testing bad as well. With everything connected it still not charging the battery. Voltage exactly the same running or off. Replaced battery as well. Connections clean and tight. What am I missing?

depending on engine mdl#... please post it

check for AC volts on yellows... if none charge coil is suspect . make certain rectifier is grounded (black wire if so equipt'd )

you can get 2 or 3 phase rectifiers dirt cheap on AMAZON if only for testing purposes.

I have 4.5-5 volts ac the rectifier is bolted to the frame (ground) of the motor. Good ideas I'll get another cheap rectifier just to eliminate it one more time . Thank you

I don't think so. It's not in the wiring diagram but I'll look closer. Thank you

5 vac will never give you 12+ volts to charge the battery!
if 2 wires of the charge coil measure across BOTH wires! not just yellow to grd.

Yes I just did not run it up high enough.When I run it up I get low teens. With new regulator I also get some charging voltage but not the 14+ that is expected. Battery at rest engine off supplies 12.7 I am able to get 12.9 at 2/3 throttle guessing 2500 rpm.

It can take days of medium running speeds to recharge a boat battery up to 13.7 or 14.5 volts. Any fishfinder will take longer. If possible at lower speeds.
