This guy broke down Wednesday night and tied up to our dock and walked home at 4 am. He didn’t back until about 2.30 yesterday afternoon and it was a windy day. The stern cleat had rip out and the boat swung around and smash into the rocks which left him with a few holes in the hull and a lot of water. Luckily it ended up on beach and didn’t sink but what a mess. We managed to pull in on shore with his truck for the night so he could come up with a plan today to get it out of here. He still messing around with it and filling holes with 5200 fast cure and will try to float it again. I’m not sure how well that’s going to work out but we shall see.

That is some nasty damage on the side ... is that the only damage, or is there more underneath?

He was very calm giving the situation he was in.
He even lost his phone in the surf and didn’t flip out. Poor guy broke his knee last October and has been cooped up and out of work since and this was his trip out for the since then.

Scary thought about going back out into what looks like the ocean with a boat patched with caulk and bondo !!

Agreed. He only has about 1 1/2 miles to go to get back to the ramp. I’ll try and help him get it back in the water at high tide today and keep my fingers crossed for him. The body of water is Vineyard Sound. Cape Cod Mass.

I wouldn't deal with fast cure.

A scotchbright pad and acetone to clean the surface, then a butyl tape patch for RV roofs over that large hole (both inside and out)

Well he didn’t get far. I fact he didn’t even leave the dock. I helped him get it water and tied to the dock and 15 minutes later she was going down.
Back on the beach she went.

At this point I’d turn it over to my insurance company, consider it a loss and let them deal with it. If he doesn’t have insurance he’s *&##ed.

Yep no insurance. Turns out it’s not even registered to him. He got the boat for free and hadn’t changed it yet. I’m pretty sure the keel is split or there is more damage on the bottom of the hull that can’t be seen as it on the beach.
It’s in pretty rough shape and needs to be salvaged now. There is no chance of floating long enough to get back to the ramp.
I feel bag for guy.

Unfortunately for him the only access to do that would involve dragging it over the beach grass dunes and that’s a big no no around here.
A buddy of mine has a barge with a crane on it that would make quick work out if this and hopefully he will give the a break on cost.
The guys had a long running streak of bad luck and could certainly use a break.

From bad to worse. Does the bilge pump still have a battery left ?
The GREEN PEOPLE get there ? Pollution risks. Call your insurance company. I really have no idea how to SAFELY handle the mess. The barge sounds best. Will your insurance cover the costs ?
Be warned .......People can claim ths happened because YOUR dock cleat pulled out. Could get sticky for you.
He did not as for permission to use your dock. Trespassing
Good luck with this mess.

The LEGAL owner of the boat has legal responsibility for giving the unsafe boat to the person. Does it have enough USCG gear on it. Let the 2 insurance companies pay for all the damages.

It’s gone now. He started telling me what he wanted to do to get it over the dunes and I just said don’t tell me anything and do what you gotta do. If I don’t know what that is the. I’m not involved. I’m still not sure what he did but there was no evidence that he dragged it over the dunes. 👍👍
